Hewlett-Packard last week launched a range of notebook and desktop computers aimed at business markets, including Brio and Vectra PCs that reach below the hallowed $US1000 mark.
At an unveiling in New York, HP executives also touted a new assembly program for North America designed to cut inventory costs and the time it takes to distribute its products. Officials said the program has already proven successful in European and Asian markets.
HP officials also unveiled a line of docking stations that, according to the company, are compatible across all of its Omnibook computers. They are priced from $US199 to $US799. Finally, HP also released a new version of TopTools, a Web-based application that allows IT staff to remotely manage PC and notebook applications.
Among the new notebooks announced, the Omnibook 4100 sports a 233MHz or 266MHz Pentium II processor and measures 1.4in deep, officials said. They also said the 266MHz version is priced between $US11,162 and $US12,058.
HP also unveiled the Omnibook 3100 and 2100, which run on Intel's Pentium processors with MMX and are priced starting from $US4016.
