Melbourne-based services provider, Oakton, has won a four-year contract worth $1 million with the Victorian Department of Justice (DOJ) to establish an integrated technology platform and related applications.
The contract has been split into two phases.
During the first phase, Oakton will replace the DOJ's legacy in-house system with a custom-made Integrated Courts Management System (ICMS). The second part of the contract is focused on providing specific services for users and will depend on the outcomes of the initial rollout.
CEO, Neil Wilson, said Oakton would be required to incorporate a common user interface for court staff, online information services, internal knowledge and information sharing for judicial officers and court staff, state-wide integrated electronic registry and support software for case management and court hearings.
It will also provide teleconferencing and remote evidence facilities, possibly through another integration partner.
Wilson said the contract was only offered to a select number of companies. While it wasn't a significant deal financially, the requirements reflected the company's high-level skill sets.
"We have had other deals that are financially similar," he said. "But strategically, we are getting invited to the table to do more of these types of deals, which is a good indicator of the company moving forward."
Wilson said it would not decide on the type of software brand it would use until the first phase of contract was completed.
Oakton would be in charge of managing all software partnerships, he said.
