Vendor looks to OEMs to pre-install and bundle software with hardware

CA has unveiled new incentive programs for its OEM and VAR partners.

Consumer division director, Patrina Kerr, said the initiatives were focused on supporting the small office and VAR channel.

"These will enable resellers when they are on-site with customers to access the software via electronic means and receive a benefit for downloading at the customer's location," she said. "It is about leveraging what we can within the organisation. Our intention is to be as easy as possible to do business with."

The OEM program is designed to encourage partners to pre-install CA software and to bundle its products with hardware, she said. Incentives will range from bonus stock to cash rewards.

In June, CA will also launch a flash card with embedded software. After installing the software from the 2GB USB key, users will have about 1.8GB of storage space that can be used for backup or file transfer purposes.

The initiatives are part of CA's plans to bolster its consumer image. Since launching the division in September, it had grown to 12 staff, Kerr said.

"The last six months has been about getting the right people, building the strategy and cementing some partnerships," she said. "We see opportunity and growth continuing in box sales and OEM, and this can only increase with the people coming on-board focusing on those markets."
