Datacom rounds out national presence

Integrator opens office in ACT and recruits former Commander manager

Datacom has rounded out its national presence with a new office in the ACT.

The state footprint gives the integrator better resources to tackle the Federal Government sector, an area CEO, Michael Browne, identified as a key growth opportunity.

Browne said Datacom's ACT-based customers, such as AusIndustry, had previously been managed from its Sydney office.

"It is important for us to develop a direct point of presence in the ACT," he said. "We now have substantial staff in all the major areas we need to be in. Any acquisitions that occur from now on will be ones that add to our depth and breadth."

The office is located in Barton and manned by nine staff. The integrator has recruited former Commander ACT manager, Brad Dawson, as its new state general manager. He will be supported by non-executive director, Dr Allan Hawke, who has been with Datacom since August last year. Browne said it would look to grow headcount as market demand increased.

The ACT branch is expected to add $35-$40 million to the company after its first year, he said. Datacom's overall turnover was $240 million last year.

Datacom expanded into WA in November, and recently acquired companies in Townsville and Brisbane to strengthen its northern presence. It has 800 staff across Australia.
