A beta release of the NetBeans 6.1 IDE is set to ship Monday, Sun Microsystems and the NetBeans community said.
Version 6.1 adds features for JavaScript development and tighter integration with MySQL database capabilities.
The open source NetBeans platform serves as the foundation of Sun's development tools strategy.
JavaScript support includes semantic highlighting, code completion, type analysis, quick fixes, semantic checks, and refactoring. A browser compatibility feature makes it easy to build JavaScript code that works in browsers, including Mozilla Firefox, Internet Explorer, and Safari.
Other highlights in version 6.1 include:
-- Performance enhancements such as faster startup and code completion.
-- Spring framework support, including configuration file support and hyperlinks to speed navigation.
-- Enhancements to Ruby/JRuby support, including a Ruby platform manager and backing for the latest version of Ruby on Rails.
-- Beta support for the ClearCase version control system, made available as a plug-in.
Sun representatives Friday did not have information on general availability for NetBeans 6.1.
