Reseller Awards: Best Initiative - ASI Solutions

Taking technology to school

ASI Solutions has a long history in education, winning its first state-based contract in 1991.

Nineteen years later, a partnership with newly-formed company, Learnology, saw ASI pick up a $5 million over seven years contract with the Department of Education in Canberra, and the Best Reseller Performance Initiative at the ARN Awards, 2010.

Learnology is based in Melbourne, and claims on its LinkedIn profile its “focus is on building capacity within schools to deliver sustainable and systemic change. Our approach creates and, more importantly, supports, a new tier of technology-confident Australian schools.”

According to one of ASI’s education BDMs, and the one behind the initiative, Justin Lowe, the reseller saw a huge gap in the largely beneficial spending the Government has been putting into education.

“The problem with that spending is there has been no direction in how to use the technology to gain benefits in the classroom,” Lowe said.

“So what we’re doing is going around to each individual school and showing them how to implement the technology as a whole.”

The initiative is the start for a longer strategy for ASI Solutions.

“It’s an environment that over the next 12 - 24 months will see education departments looking at 21st Century learning skills and how they implement the technology in the schools,” he said.

“We think partnering with a company like Learnology we’re definitely going to be the front of the market, and really it’s about focusing on educational outcomes.

“With the new direction, we now have an opportunity to talk to every state department.”

Those discussions are already taking place, according to Lowe.

“At the moment we’re in the tender process with a couple of opportunities,” he said.

ASI has worked hard to gain positive references and a track record of success in the education space.

With this initiative the latest step on that path, the reseller’s hard work is paying off, and the hope is it will continue to do so into the future.

Earlier this year, ASI director, Ken Lowe, told ARN he saw a great deal of potential for technologies such as e-readers in education.

“It fits into the education space, which we have strong ties with, and I think it will be very interesting,” ASI director, Ken Lowe, said.

You only have to look at the success other devices - such as the iPad – have had in education to see the kind of traction new and innovative technologies can have in Australia’s modern education system.

And judging from its award-winning initiative and future plans, ASI Solutions is right on track to capitalise.
