The Prime Minister, Julia Gillard, has called on corporate Australia to give more money and expertise to Queenslanders in need as its rebuilds after being hit by devastating floods.
Gillard was in Brisbane today for the first meeting of the Prime Minister’s Business Taskforce – a group of corporate figures that aims to boost the money, skills and equipment being donated by companies.
At a press conference, the Prime Minister said experts in telecommunications, logistics and other fields would be investigating what Queenslanders needed to rebuild and how corporate Australia could help the process.
“We do need more money, we do need in-kind assistance and we do need the benefits of the kind of expertise that leading businesspeople have going direct into communities that are rebuilding,” she said.
“The efforts through this Business Taskforce are about… (making) sure that we’re seeing the maximum level of donations into the Premier’s relief appeal and the maximum coordination of in-kind assistance from the provision of expertise”
Tech resellers, disties and vendors have been donating funds and time to the flood relief effort in droves.
