Thomson Reuters picks NetApp for WestlawNext upgrade

Thomson Reuters has selected NetApp as key strategic IT partner to improve its WestlawNext legal research service.

NetApp is a storage system and software provider that offers data management and protection services.

Although the Westlaw research service is used by approximately 98 per cent of the largest law firms in the US – storing more than five billion documents, Thomson Reuters is focused on developing and expanding WestlawNext, which launched in 2010.

The aim was to create a simple and efficient research database. Through the partnership with NetApp, WestlawNext will be used by 20,000 law firms, corporate law departments, and government customers.

Thomson Reuters professional division chief technology officer, Rich King, said, “Working with NetApp enabled us to fundamentally transform how legal research is conducted and provide the legal industry with the most powerful and innovative product of its kind in the market.”

OpenText digitises receipts

OpenText is removing the paperwork hassle from the expense reporting process with its SAP Travel Receipts Management application.

OpenText offers business solutions by working with organisations to preserve corporate memory, increase brand equity, automate process, mitigate risks, manage compliance and improve competitiveness.

The SAP Travel Receipts Management application allows users full automation of receipts with its multi-function devices, scanning applications, fax machines and email. It captures images of receipts and stores them for organised management.

SAP Travel Management Solutions vice-president, Hendrik Vordenbaeumen, said, “SAP Travel Receipts Management by OpenText extends the SAP Travel Management value proposition by providing optical archival of digitised travel receipts and subsequent direct integration with SAP Travel Management.”

Its mobile compatibility assists travelling employees, eliminating the slow process of collection, preparation and mailing, by enabling self-service applications for image capture. The images are stored in a repository and linked to organisations’ networks, accessible through standard SAP user interfaces.

OpenText’s product also offers lowered processing costs, promising an approximate 50 per cent saving if fully automated.

Kroll Ontrack shields organisations from data loss

As contemporary business overwhelmingly operates digitally, data loss is imminent. Kroll Ontrack is attempting to assist organisations in preventing this threat through a First Responder Program which aims to educate with customised and specific advice.

Kroll Ontrack provides technology-driven services in data recovery, information management, and legal technologies.

Recognising that electronic information has become a most vital resource, the company is offering this free service through 20-minute Webinars or onsite, where the focus is on Information Lifecycle Management (ILM) – including data loss, hardware failures, virtualisation/VMware, RAID, data erasure, SSD and cloud computing.

Kroll Ontrack APAC general manager, Adrian Briscoe, said, “Data loss preparedness is critical to an organisation’s overall health state.”

The company aims to empower and prepare organisations in reducing (and eliminating) the risk of data loss through a seminar, followed by self-evaluation where preparedness is assessed.

“The First Responder Program not only equips IT with first-class education, but also concrete consulting advice from the data recovery market leader at no cost,” Briscoe added.
