Astaro evolves its Red 10 appliance
Sophos company and Unified Threat Management providerAstaroas, has made available its evolved RED 10 appliance.
Following the RED 10’s mid-2010 release, Astaro has been collecting customer feedback to optimise its product.
The focus of the revision is simplified remote location security to avoid potential lapses in security due to downtime. It aims to resolve minor existing RED issues, while maintaining ease in installation and management of branch office security.
Planned additions for the future include: a USB port, duel firmware support and additional status LEDs for easier diagnostics.
The RED 10 revised version is compatible with all Astaro Security Gateway (ASG) software releases, starting from V7.508.
Norton expands its Everywhere initiative The recent explosion of devices has produced even more lingering security and confidentiality threats.
To counter this issue, Norton by Symantec is furthering its Norton Everywhere initiative through its Internet Security and AntiVirus 2012 software.
The Norton Everywhere initiative aims to cater for the growth of mobile devices, offering services that surpass traditional desktop PC protection to include the full range of new ways of connecting to the Internet.
With a focus on the contemporary mobile and cloud-based technology context, the 2012 range expands its traditional protection capabilities to provide tablet and mobile device security – including the ability to track and find lost or stolen laptops and Android products.
Symantec consumer business unit group president, Janice Chaffin, said, “Norton will continue striving to ensure that our customers are safe wherever they go, whatever digital experience they choose to have.”
Norton’s 2012 range addresses the issue of ensuring online personal information remains confidential by offering a combination of reputation, file, behaviour, and network based protection.
Improvements from previous versions include: Norton Identity Safe in the Cloud, Norton Management, Norton Insight, SONAR and Norton User Experience.
Norton Internet Security 2012 is available for $99.99, providing one-year protection for up to three PCs. Norton AntiVirus 2012 is available for $59.99 and provides one-year protection for one PC.
Norton 2012 products are compatible with Microsoft Windows XP (32-bit) Home, Professional, Tablet PC, Media Centre with Service Pack 2 or later, Microsoft Windows Vista (32-bit and 64-bit), and Microsoft Windows 7 (32-bit and 64-bit) Stater, Home Basic, Home Premium, Business, and Ultimate.
Norton Internet Security and Norton AntiVirus 2007 or later users with valid subscriptions are eligible for product updates via the subscription service model.
Adobe’s new software to enhance creation-to-delivery flow
In anticipation of its Flash Player 11 and AIR 3, Adobe Systems Incorporated has announced the release of its Adobe Flash Media Server 4.5 and Flash Access 3.0 software.
The Flash Media Server 4.5 offers the new ability to deliver video content to Apple’s iPad and iPhone devices, allowing users to reach greater audiences. The Flash Access 3.0, on the other hand, is a protection and monetisation solution which contains strict studio-level security for guarded content delivery across multiple devices.

The Flash Media Server 4.5 produces a wider array of delivery options while enabling reduced costs through device proliferation.
New features include: iOS compatibility, integrated content protection and on-demand stream packaging.
Flash Access 3.0 allows video delivery to mobile devices both securely and cost effectively with a single back-end workflow and cross-compatibility of devices with displays and platforms.
Its new features include: Mobile device support, scalable license delivery and in-band key rotation and compatibility with industry standards including UltraViolet.
Quantum adds to StorNext family
Backup, recovery and archive specialist, Quantum, has unveiled multiple additions to its StorNext appliance range.
The new products, through the power of StorNext and market-leading hardware, aim to provide high performance file sharing and archiving in purpose built configurations of metadata controllers, expansion appliances and disk and archive enabled libraries. The additions will be compatible with previous software.
The purpose of the metadata controller appliance range is to address recorded performance use cases. The system attachments will be designed to add to performance, allowing scaling of StorNext environments.
The Archive Enabled Library also integrates policy based data management and archiving software to monitor and validate archived tape integrity. The system automatically repairs faulty systems, migrating them from old to new tapes.
The StorNext M330 Metadata Cotnroller and Archive Enabled Library are currently available from Quantum and partners. A range of storage systems are predicted to be released in late 2011, followed by the G300 Scale-Out Gateway Appliance in early 2012.
