Eaton upgrades its Intelligent Power Software

Diversified power management company, Eaton Corporation, has upgraded its Intelligent Power Software to include support for redundant power supplies and parallel UPS systems.

The Intelligent Power Software v1.20 solution is based on Web 2.0 technology and includes two applications. First, the Intelligent Power Manager, for UPS and rack-based power distribution unit (ePDUs) management and monitoring, connects to virtual machine management systems to integrate power management functions. This gives users the ability to view all UPSs and ePDUs in the virtual network within the same application. The second is the Intelligent Power Protector, for more efficient shut down of operating systems.

Intelligent Power Software 1.20 will replace PowerVision as Eaton’s server shutdown solution for high-availability sites. The software solution manages up to ten devices at no charge, with licenses for up to 100 devices – or even an unlimited number – also available.

CommVault-Dell collaboration enhances solution

Singular information management solutions provider, CommVault, are continuing their collaboration with the integration of the former’s SnapProtect snapshot technology with the latter’s Compellent storage arrays.

The integration means that customers can combine Dell Compellent pointer-based snapshots, called Replays, with application-aware Simpana software with one protection policy and management interface. This offers recovery for service-level commitments and automatically tiers secondary retention copies to lower cost storage pools.

The SnapProtect enabler for Compellent SANs can be used to protect Microsoft Exchange, SharePoint, SQL Server, and Windows file system environments. Automated storage policies drive secondary protection copies to deduplicated disk, tape or cloud storage.

In addition, the Simpana SnapProtect client ensures application-consistent recovery copies, while also offering one-pass backup with multi-option restore operations and one-click recovery features which restore entire storage volumes.

Siemens launches its NX 8

Siemens PLM Software has launched the NX 8, a fully integrated computer-aided design, manufacturing and engineering analysis (CAD/CAM/CAE) solution.

The latest version of its NX Software builds on Siemens’ CAE offerings and includes the NX Nastran software for resolving simulation issues.

NX CAE operates as a standalone simulation solution or fully integrated component of the NX product development suite, with leading FEA solvers, as well as NX Nastran. It also gives users the ability to import geometry from a variety of sources and modify it.

The NX 8 for simulation offers new solutions for optimisation and multi-physics analysis. NX Nastran updates include improvements in nonlinear and dynamic analysis and increases in computational performance.

Enhancements to the solution include new or extended functionality focused on both machinery and tooling design and improvements to tooling design automation with CASE-based validation tools.

Other developments include: new ‘part modules’ technology to simplify modelling and editing of designs, expanded HD3D and design validation tools for interaction, synchronous technology enhancements and feature modelling. NX 8 is available through the Siemens website.
