Updated BI platform, data migration solution, a multi-function handset, and business risk solutions

MicroStrategy updates its BI platform to 9.2.1m

Business intelligence (BI) solutions provider, MicroStrategy has released version 9.2.1m of its BI platform, which now features an array of new capabilities to support mobile apps.

Key features in the new version are offline mobile transactions, intelligent offline caching, and a secure mobile content management system.

Additionally, the 9.2.1m includes rotation based on device orientation; pinch to zoom for document interactivity; iOS accessibility framework features; pre-cache folders for offline administration; adaptive mobile caching; offline interface enhancements; Siteminder Single Sign-on security; mobile analytical engine optimisations; and network quality monitoring for real-time network bandwidth updates.

9.2.1m is also equipped with a Timeline Widget for viewing events through an interactive timeline visualisation.

MicroStrategy 9.2.1m is the first MicroStrategy Mobile for Android has been available to the public via the Android Marketplace.

Quest simplifies migration challenges

IT management solutions provider, Quest Software, together with ScriptLogic Corporation, has released the Secure Copy 6.0 data migration and management solution.

The product acts as a comprehensive solution that automates the copying of data between file servers without the use of agents or scripts. It supports copying of files and folders, NTFS permissions, file shares, local users and groups, and compression settings.

When combined with other Quest products, it covers pre-migration analysis, reporting and cleanup tasks, post-migration verification and reporting, and ongoing data management and maintenance.

Version 6.0 of the solution contains enhancements in: - Logging and reporting: It is equipped with pre-defined reports in several view output formats, and provides migration details. It also has a new dashboard with more detailed summaries. - Job management: Built with a fresh user interface and new job option categories. - Copy performance: As the solution now works with Volume Shadow Copy Services, data migrations begin from a fixed point in time with a snapshot state, allowing servers or files to be migrated without taking applications offline.

SpectraLink 8452 multi-function handset

Unified communications (UC) solutions provider, Polycom, has released its SpectraLink 8452 enterprise-grade voice-over Wi-Fi handset with integrated 2D barcode scanner.

The product serves as a mobile phone, pager, push-to-talk device, and barcode scanner, as well as allowing access to Web-based applications.

As a multifunction device, it enables employee communications within the enterprise Wi-Fi network.

The solution also features Polycom HD Voice sound quality, a large colour display with an intuitive user interface, enterprise-grade durability, simple provisioning and management, and support for accessories such as battery packs and headsets.

Additionally, the handset is in the process of qualification to display and share call and directory information via Microsoft Lync.

Compuware tackles business risks with latest solutions

Technology performance company, Compuware has made numerous product enhancements to assist in overcoming risks of the ‘new normal of mainframe’ through productivity and improved application performance management.

The Compuware Workbench 3.1.6, an open framework development environment, has been enhanced to include: - Fast, easy access to MVS data: the upgrade features File-AIDS for MVS browse and edit capabilities for accelerated data access for productivity. It allows control of test data management and execution costs. - Quick debugging capabilities: enhanced Xpediter debugging capability for interactive test sessions to move applications into production. It aims to address risks of lost application knowledge, and reduced efficiency. - Abend-AID 12.2: for increased diagnostic capabilities allowing users to deliver service. New features include a Cobol Peform trace, consolidated displays of IMS and DB2 data to access information, and easier access to reports.

Additionally, Compuware aims to enhance application performance management through iStrobe 4.3. The mainframe APM solution now includes the ability to automatically measure batch jobs that exceed calculated thresholds.

It also enables integration with existing monitoring tools, improved CICS transation reporting, and new view of DB2 accounting statistics.
