Logitech goes Ultrathin for iPad mini

Logitech's Ultrathin Keyboard mini effectively combines a smart cover and a physical keyboard

Logitech's Ultrathin Keyboard Cover for iPad is one of the best keyboard accessories available, so it's no surprise to see that the company has produced a version to fit the smaller iPad mini.

Like the original version, the Logitech Ultrathin Keyboard mini effectively combines a smart cover and a physical keyboard while still managing to keep a slim and light profile.

Despite the smaller size, the Ultrathin Keyboard mini maintains all of the features of the larger version. Critically, Logitech says the keyboard itself uses a traditional layout and standard key size, so it should remain as comfortable to type on as the larger model.

Logitech's director of brand development for tablet accessories, Alexis Richard, says these full sized keys are the big drawcard.

"We are excited to bring the award-winning Logitech Ultrathin Keyboard Cover design – recognized across the industry as the best mobile keyboard for iPad – to the iPad mini."

"Think of it as the other half of your iPad mini. Its clever seven-inch design fits perfectly with the iPad mini while offering full-size keys for easy typing, saving your screen space for content."

The Logitech Ultrathin Keyboard mini has a magnetic clip on the side that attaches onto the iPad mini, allowing it to be folded closed when not in use. When you want to use the keyboard you simply detach the magnet from the iPad mini, and place the tablet into a recessed slot in either portrait or landscape modes.

The keyboard once again uses an aluminium design and is available in black and white, so it matches the colours of the iPad mini.

Logitech claims the battery on the Ultrathin Keyboard mini will last three months on a single charge with two hours of typing per day. While it's not as impressive as the six months provided by the Ultrathin Keyboard Cover for iPad, it's understandable given the smaller size of the built-in battery.

Other features include an instant on/off function that automatically locks and unlocks the iPad mini when you close and open the cover, along with a row of iPad mini function shortcut keys for commands like copy and paste.

The Logitech Ultrathin Keyboard mini will be available in Australia in June for $89.95. It will be sold through Apple stores, Officeworks, JB Hi-Fi, Myer, Harvey Norman, The Good Guys, Big W and Dick Smith retail outlets.
