Optus Business wins $30m UGL contract

To provide managed ICT services, mobility, broadband, and M2M capabilities

Optus Business has won a five-year, $30 million contract to provide Australian engineering and property services provider, UGL Limited, with a range of managed ICT services, mobility, broadband, and machine-to-machine (M2M) capabilities.

Optus’ mobility solution will connect more than 8000 UGL employees in Australia and Asia. It will include the transition of UGL’s field force of engineers to a range of new smartphones and applications with the goal of enabling real time access to the company’s ERP, CRM, and workflow systems.

The telco claims this will improve information flow and the speed of decision making, while enabling real-time updates to workflow systems and tracking of jobs, resulting in the reduction of operating costs. Optus’ M2M solution will also track and analyse UGL technology use to drive efficiency.

The managed data and ICT services provided under the contract will enable UGL to hand over monitoring, maintenance and management of ICT to Optus Business.

“Our partnership allows UGL to focus their key personnel on driving their business strategy and growth, while we handle the provision and management of UGL’s end-to-end ICT services, including their voice, data and mobility requirements, in Australia and across the region,” said Optus Business managing director, John Paitaridis.

The whole-of-business agreement was handed to Optus for its ability to deliver domestic and region data network services, as well as custom design a range of intelligent business management applications to enable UGL to improve productivity and efficiency.

“We chose Optus because their team demonstrated an innovative approach,” UGL CEO and managing director, Richard Leupen, said. “They made it their purpose to understand our business and our challenges, and to work with us to design solutions that would address them.”
