Victorian Government calls for public opinion on Digital Economy Strategy

Government launches new website to collect input

The Victorian government has called for public input into the state's nascent Digital Economy Strategy.

The call comes with the launch of the Digital Economy Strategy website (www.digital-economy.vic.gov.au) to help gather public sentiment on the best way to build digital capability of Victorian businesses.

The Digital Economy Strategy aims to position Victoria as a strong and innovative digital economy that can capture the substantial benefits and opportunities generated by digital technologies.

Victorian technology minister, Gordon Rich-Phillips, said he wanted to use the Digital Economy Strategy website and co-production approach to induce innovative and effective strategies for boosting Victoria’s digital capability, capacity and skills.

"We are particularly interested in hearing how government can actively help to improve digital capabilities,” he said.

“The website seeks input and feedback on themes such as digital inclusion, competitive SMEs, infrastructure, innovation and entrepreneurship."

He said creating a successful digital economy required a collaborative effort, which capitalised on the experiences, ideas and ingenuity of Victorians, as well as global innovation and experience.

"We expect that these themes will expand and diversify as contributors suggest new ideas and ways of approaching the strategy," he said.

The consultation period will run until 30 July.

Rich-Phillips said governments certainly played an important role in growing the digital economy.

"But we urge individuals and businesses to lead the charge.”
