iPhone 6 expected to launch in late September

Apple's next-gen iPhone will likely launch towards the end of September

Citing a reliable source, MacRumors is reporting that Apple's next-gen iPhone will likely be announced in early-mid September, paving the way for a full fledged launch later in the month.

The iPhone typically launches on a Friday and some in the rumour mill have already pegged down Friday September 26 as the date to keep an eye on.

Notably, this year's iPhone upgrade cycle promises to be a bit different. Not only will Apple be releasing two new iPhone models, but each will come with its own distinct form factor. As has previously been reported, Apple will likely unveil an iPhone with a 4.7-inch display and another iPhone model with a 5.5-inch display. At this point, it's unclear if the company will completely abandon the 4-inch display used on the iPhone 5s, though one can bet that the 5s will remain available albeit at a cheaper pricepoint.

And speaking of price, it will also be interesting to see how Apple prices its two new iPhone models. To that end, there have been rumours that the larger screened iPhone may run at a base price of $299. Nonetheless, a recent analyst survey found that consumers would be more than willing to shell out an extra $100 for the 5.5-inch model.

Aside from the size difference, it's also been rumored that the 5.5-inch model may sport a sapphire glass display as opposed to the Gorilla Glass that has been used on every iPhone model since the original.
