Cloud is the “real disruptor” in IT: NetApp

Data management company continues to see opportunities in the Cloud.

With all the disruption taking place in IT, NetApp remains fixated on the Cloud.

The storage and flash trend has been important to NetApp, though A/NZ managing director, Steve Manley, said the “real disruptor” is the transition to the Cloud.

“The virtualisation trend was significant, and we were at the forefront of that by experiencing huge growth during that period,” he said.

When it comes to the Cloud, Manley said he is “equally if not more excited” about the technology, which he said is “a bigger disruption than we have ever seen.”

“Our vision defines what role we believe we will play in this transition to the Cloud, specifically the hybrid variation,” he said.

Managing data silos

At the centre of hybrid Cloud is data, and Manley said that is the “hardest thing to move.”

“Compute and network packets come and go, and this data concept has gravity,” he said.

Whether the Cloud is provided through hyper-scalers or boutique value providers, NetApp wants to be the data fabric that connects all of the silos of data.

“We’re not building a Cloud and we don’t want to, but it is what we’re delivering today,” Manley said.

“It’s resonating with our customers, who are working with us on accelerating the journey to the Cloud using this data fabric.”
