With demand for smart devices growing, Cellnet expects to see increased competition in the channel in 2015.
A/NZ CEO, Alan Sparks, said international and local vendors and suppliers will be competing against each other for consumer attention.
“Australian disposable income is comparably robust in global terms, making the market here very attractive for international brands,” he said.
Through the eagerness of consumers, Sparks said certain technology categories will begin to “make their mark” on the everyday lives of ordinary Australians.
“These include wearable technology, such as smartwatches and activity trackers,” he said.
“A vast array of gadgets in the Bluetooth space allow for all sorts of neat uses, such as temperature, climate, access and sporting activity.”
The appeal of affordable
The incursion of cheaper Android devices from Chinese vendors may start to take share in the affordable smartphone tier in 2015
Sparks said Chinese vendors such as Xaomi, Huawei and others are using the latest versions of Android ro produce low cost, high quality smartphones that meet the basic requirements of consumers.
“Adoption of these devices by telcos in the US have already started to take place, with higher margin generation for those telcos,” he said.
Based on the uptake in the US, Sparks foresees this trend to come over to A/NZ in the coming months.
