PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) Australia’s head of IT services, Matt Chamley, has left his role to shack up with VMware as the cloud virtualisation vendor’s new director of systems engineering in Australia and New Zealand.
Chamley stepped into the role of PwC’s head of IT services less than a year ago, joining the company in September last year after more than two years as Woolworths’ head of infrastructure.
During his relatively brief time at PwC Australia, Chamley led the consulting firm’s IT service strategy, engineering and operations, while overseeing the product development of key solutions for PwC's clients.
Additionally, he was responsible for the development of PwC Australia’s DevOps capability, working with his team to mature modern IT delivery across public and private clouds.
Chamley was also on hand during the migration of the company’s workloads to Amazon Web Services (AWS) and Vblock private cloud.
It remains to be seen who will replace Chamley in his role heading up PwC’s IT services business.
However, PwC has taken Chamley's departure as an opportunity to restructure its head of IT services role into two separate roles: one focused on service delivery and operations, and the other on cloud engineering.
"This will ensure both areas are given the focus they deserve from an execution standpoint," a PwC spokesperson told ARN. "We’re currently advertising the positions and applications are starting to come in."
Meanwhile, in his new role, Chamley will lead a team of pre-sales engineers overseeing the sales and effective delivery of VMware’s services in the local market.

According to VMware vice president and managing director, Alister Dias, Chamley’s experience leading a number of large corporations through their own digital transformations is expected to enable the vendor to work better with its customers to drive results.
