The Australian Department of Defence has awarded Hewlett Packard Enterprise (HPE) with a $6.18 million contract that will be ultimately handed to MicroFocus, under which HPE's software business now resides.
The new contract is for the provision of software platform support and system administration.
A spokesperson from the Department of Defence said the agreement, which was struck with HPE, was inked to specifically provide software support services for the management of the HPE software, Service Manager 9.
The agreement with HPE will be novated to MicroFocus, which completed its US$8.8 billion spin merger of HPE's software business assets in early September.
The deal, which runs from 11 September through to 30 June 2018, was procured through a prequalified tender process.
“This service supports ongoing business-as-usual activities conducted on a twenty-four seven basis to support Defence’s ICT hardware and software systems,” the Department of Defence spokesperson mentioned.
The spokesperson added that the agreement does not include any software or hardware components.
The Department of Defence is one of the biggest public sector spenders on IT in Australia, and has been dishing out some hefty contracts to businesses for the provision of software, maintenance, support, and managed services.
Most recently, in July, Canberra-based SAP partner, Southern Cross Computing, was awarded a $13.5 million tech services contract by the Department of Defence. Just before that, in June, DXC Technology was provided with a $27.2 million, multi-year contract for the provision of managed services.
On 29 May, ARN reported that Citadel Group subsidiary, Jakeman Business Solutions, won a $19.3 million deal for the provision of software maintenance and support.
A day after, Veritas Storage was handed an $8.25 million contract from the department for the provision of software.
On 12 May, it handed Leidos subsidiary, Abacus Innovations, a $20.1 million, multi-year contract for the provision of centralised processing services for the Department’s Chief Information Officer Group (CIOG).
