MySQL says database is production-ready

MySQL has announced that Version 4.0 of the MySQL database is production-ready and supports Intel's Itanium 2 processors on the Linux platform.

The production designation meant the database was ready for deployment, the company said. Development releases of the database have been available since October 2001.

Key features include a query cache, offering increased performance for many applications with repetitive queries, row-level locking, full-text indexing, and an embedded MySQL server library to make the database faster and better optimised for use as an embedded database in other applications.
