Dell EMC has been awarded a $45.4 million contract with the Federal Government's Department of Human Services (DHS) for the provision of IT hardware.

The two-year contract was initiated in April 2018 and runs until April of 2021, with the vendor tasked with replacing the department's existing and ageing equipment and servicing requirements.

"This includes the purchase of x86 converged infrastructure capacity from Dell EMC to replace end of useful life x86 capacity, and to provide additional x86 capacity for a broad range of DHS initiatives," the Department of Human Services general manager Hank Jongen told ARN.

Dell EMC was awarded the contract following a competitive tender through the information and communication technology services commercial off the shelf (COTS) software and hardware panel from 2012, which runs until 31 August 2018.

The panel counts on 40 suppliers including ASG Group, ASI Solutions, Data#3, Dialog, DXC, IBM Australia to name a few.

In August 2017, Dell EMC won a $24.2 million hosting contract for the supply of hardware and associated software to upgrade the department’s existing X86 based application hosting environment. The contract runs until June 2020.

Meanwhile, in June 2017, Dell EMC won a $6 million server and network storage contract from the DHS aimed at enhancing the DHS applications' monitoring capability.

Dell EMC topped the global server shipment market for the three months ending March, beating the likes of HPE, Lenovo and IBM, according to the latest figures by analyst firm Gartner.

Dell EMC, which took pole position in both revenue and shipments, claimed 21.5 per cent market share in revenue and 18.2 per cent in shipments after experiencing 51.4 per cent revenue growth in the worldwide server market place during the first quarter of 2018.
