The Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade has issued a call for managed services providers (MSP) to oversee its communications network for the next three years.
The government body has issued a tender valued between $6.8 million and $11.2 for an MSP to manage its unclassified voice network, which includes phones, virtual management servers and telecom services.
The provider will be required to offer round-the-clock support for the department’s voice network, plus software and hardware maintenance.
The previous contract was awarded to DXC Technology - then known as UXC - on 1 October 2015. Valued at $3 million, the contract expired on 28 September this year.
In particular, that will involve 24-hour support for major network issues and failures both nationally and internationally, responding within five minutes and resolving within two hours for the most significant and widespread incidents.
Support will be provided with both via email, phone and on-the-ground depending on the seriousness of the issues and location.
Other areas include handling network updates, installation and management of new handsets and phone lines, plus day-to-day tasks such as voicemail and password resets.
In addition, the provider will also be required to deploy staff to Canberra for the initial transition phase and provide support to relocating or new sites.
The request-for-proposal will close on 12 November.
