Australian technology company MGM Wireless has ramped up its reseller deal with the retailer Leading Edge Group after signing a preferred supplier agreement.
The publicly-listed company’s flagship product, the children’s smartwatch Spacetalk, will now be sold in 120 Leading Edge stores across Australia, dramatically increasing its current store count of 10.
MGM Wireless told shareholders on 30 October that the agreement followed positive Spacetalk sales since the supplier first began stocking the product in July this year.
Primarily focused on regional areas, the sales coverage will be spread across IT and computer resellers in all the Australian states.
Founded in 2001, MGM Wireless had previously specialised in an SMS messaging service used by schools throughout Australia aimed at informing parents of their child’s attendance and school events.
Over recent years, the company has moved into wearable technology through the children’s smartwatch, which allows two-way 3G communication, GPS tracking and parental alerts when children leave designated safe spaces.
Although the company originally sold the product on their own website, it has recently shifted its attention to reseller partners.
In April, the company first announced to shareholders it had signed an agreement with two Telstra franchisees to resell Spacetalk. Two months later, the Sydney-based firm signed a deal with 12 bricks-and-mortar stores, 10 of which were Leading Edge.
Then in July, MGM Wireless signed a trial agreement with JB Hi-Fi to sell the watch on the electronics retailer’s online store.
According to an earlier announcement by the vendor, its multichannel school communication solutions are used by more than 1,100 schools and 1.6 million parents.
