Software vendor Avi Networks has launched in Australia and New Zealand with its eyes set on F5 and Citrix customers whose deals are up for renewal.

The US-based vendor, which claims to work entirely through the channel, is currently in negotiations with a local distributor in order to grow its footprint in the appliance-based, load-balancing market.

Until then, a sales team working across Eastern Australia will engage prospective customers directly, although the vendor claimed all opportunities will be passed through the channel.

The company recently appointed George Tsoukas to lead operations as regional vice-president.

Based in Melbourne, Tsoukas was most recently the sales director and Melbourne branch manager at AppDynamics, and has previously worked at VMware and Blue Cat Networks.

"Initially we will be targeting customers of the more established appliance-based load-balancing vendors such as F5 and Citrix, who are coming up for renewal,” he said.

Tsoukas told ARN the company is currently in talks with a number of local resellers as well as the distributor.

Founded in 2012, Avi’s main product is its Vantage Platform, which delivers central management of a distributed pool of software load balancers.

In addition, the vendor also sells its Avi Controller product in either a customer-managed option or as a software-as-a-service model.

The company counts Cisco, also an investor, Microsoft Azure, Red Hat and AWS, among its technology partners.
