Asia Pacific distributor Sektor has ramped up its cyber security portfolio with the acquisition of New Zealand distie Duo Group.

The deal, for an undisclosed amount, will give New Zealand-owned Sektor access to Duo’s global cyber security portfolio including Check Point, McAfee, RSA and SailPoint, as well as a wider foothold in the Kiwi market.

“Cyber security threats are growing to be a major risk for all businesses and the market for security solutions is growing accordingly,” Sektor New Zealand MD Andre van Duiven said.

“Duo’s position as the cyber security market leader fits perfectly with Sektor’s plan to support this growing market, especially in Sektor’s vertical markets such as mobile computing, security cameras, retail point-of-service and healthcare where cyber threats are now starting to be fully appreciated.”

Duo was founded in 1996 by Kendra Ross and Jackie Hatchwell.

According to Duo, the acquisition will give the distie a bigger presence across Australia and New Zealand, while helping them gain traction in emerging verticals.

Following the acquisition, Ross has been appointed general manager of the new standalone division within Sektor, while Hatchwell will oversee the PS arm. According to Sektor, all Duo management and staff will remain in the organisation.

“Sektor offers us a platform for further growth as part of a larger New Zealand-owned distributor, both in New Zealand and in Australia. The whole team are excited about this next chapter in the Duo story,” Hatchwell said.

Sektor meanwhile has Australian bases in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane and Perth, plus a presence in Malaysia, Thailand and Fiji.

It currently counts heavyweight brands such as Apple, Honeywell, HP and Epson among its sizeable portfolio.

The deal comes two days after Duo picked up global giant RSA for New Zealand distribution. It is understood RSA was aware of the pending deal at the time of signing up with Duo.
