Australian IT consultancy firm FinXL has acquired local SAP specialist Southern Cross Computing (SCC) for an undisclosed sum.

The move will see 200 SAP specialists join FinXL as a specialist division based at SCC’s current headquarters in Canberra.

Although FinXL said all ACT-based staff would be retained, the company has so far not revealed what the acquisition will mean for SCC’s Brisbane office, which opened earlier this year.

Founded in 1986 as an IT consultancy, SCC began specialising in SAP services in 1997, becoming an accredited SAP Services Partner in 2001.

The firm largely works with Federal Government departments in the Australian capital, plus a number of public offices in Queensland.

“The purchase was an excellent opportunity to acquire a highly regarded SAP specialist consultancy and project services provider with a substantial consultant base servicing major Federal Government clients, and a very experienced and talented team,” said Tracy Thomson, managing director at FinXL.

“SCC both complements and extends FinXL’s existing business and provides a real opportunity for us to expand SCC’s market reach and delivery of SAP services further afield, leveraging our established regional network and sales teams. Looking ahead, this important acquisition provides a strong platform for future growth across Australia and into New Zealand.”

According to SCC managing director, Paul McDonald, SCC has experienced consistent growth over the past 30 years but was looking to reach a broader client base.

“We’ve considered many approaches over the years and formed a view of what our ideal acquisition partner would look like, and the opportunity it would offer our clients and the ‘SCC family’ post-acquisition,” he said.

“Cultural fit was very important, as was a great industry reputation and the ability to offer our clients something more.”

Founded in 2003 by the Finite Group, FinXL has a total headcount of 1,000 consultants working across six Australian offices and two in New Zealand.

The company counts ANZ Bank, Australian Government Department of Defence, Cisco and the ABC among its client list.
