NTT prepares to retire Dimension Data brand

Signals coming together of Dimension Data, NTT Communications and NTT Security

The Dimension Data brand will be officially retired on 1 July 2019 as part of plans to create a technology powerhouse in the form of NTT.

Terms of the mega-merger - revealed in August 2018 - will see the coming together of Dimension Data, NTT Communications and NTT Security, as well as associated affiliates, to create a global services provider.

The move signals the end of a brand which was first introduced to the market 36 years ago, following the creation of Dimension Data in 1983 and subsequent acquisitions of multiple local businesses across the world.

As a result, the new-look business will be headquartered in London and spearheaded by Jason Goodall as CEO, who is currently CEO of Dimension Data.

As reported by Channel Asia, the merger will combine 20 companies with combined revenues of US$11 billion, spanning 40,000 people in 57 countries across five continents.

“It’ll strengthen its offerings by combining the capabilities of its group companies - from services through to delivery,” a company statement read. “While its core strengths remain, it’ll build on a strong foundation of delivering IT-as-a-service.

“Coupled with continuous development of software-defined technologies, it’ll be in a greater position to help modernise and transform businesses.”

There will, however, be some exceptions. Specifically, the Dimension Data brand will be retained in Middle East and Africa, while businesses currently operating as Dimension Data in Japan will form part of sister company, NTT Communications, under NTT.

From 1 October 2019, other companies within the NTT Group will start to become NTT.

“As one company, it’ll retain the dynamic loop synonymous with the brand as its logo,” a company statement added.

“Building on a combined reputation for innovation and putting its customers and people at the heart of its business, NTT will deliver on a connected future; offering a full breadth of industry-leading products, solutions, and managed services that can solve clients’ digital challenges worldwide - and the loop represents that.

“And as one NTT family, even greater things can be achieved with technology for its clients, people, and the communities it works in.”
