Ingram Micro (US) has entered into a definitive agreement to acquire privately-held, San Jose, California-based Ensim Corporation, a leader in enabling the distribution of Cloud applications.
The traditional kick-off to the ARN ICT Industry Awards, the ARN Judges' Networking Lunch, was held in the Ballroom at the Ivy in Sydney. More than 100 IT industry leaders gathered to hear an outstanding address by ARN Hall of Fame inductee and senior vice-president and managing director of Insight Enterprises Asia-Pacific, Andrea Della Mattea, who spoke about doing business in China. The gathering was also addressed by ARN president and publisher, Susan Searle, ARN associated editor, Jennifer O'Brien, and ARN Editor, James Henderson. A glorious part of the channel's history has been the parties thrown by companies associated with Distribution Central bosses Scott Frew and Nick Verykios. Most notable were the LAN Lunacy (LAN Systems was an associated company of Nick Verykios and Scott Frew which set the standard for all out parties) and DC Delirium parties. This slideshow takes highlights from four years of the latter from 2011-2014. The parties were as follows: 2011: It was back to the 1920s with burlesque dancers and entertainment from three bands including The Potbelleez at DC's inaugural channel party at the Arthouse Hotel in Sydney. 2012: Held at Simmer on the Bay, Sydney. DC's partners let their hair down and partied to disco-style music amidst drinks and canapes. 2013: DC's annual party was held at Sydney's The Star Casino, in the Boom Box Marquee Bar. 2014: The fourth DC Delirium Distribution had a Carnivale L’Obscurite theme. Entertainment was delivered by The White Tree Band with a fortune teller seeing into the future of guests, along with contortionist and Rolla Bolla performances.
The Distribution Central history goes back to when it was founded in 1992 as Firewall Systems, an IT security services provider. The company was acquired by Scott Frew and Nick Verykios in 2004, with Frew founding LAN Systems - now Westcon-Comstor - and both founding 1World Systems and Micro Networks. Arrow Electronics was founded in 1935 when a retail store named Arrow Radio opened on Cortlandt Street in the heart of lower Manhattan’s “Radio Row”, the birthplace of electronics distribution. Arrow Radio, established by Maurice (“Murray”) Goldberg, sold used radios and radio parts to retail customers. Other industry pioneers with businesses nearby were Charles Avnet and Seymour Schweber.
