Austrade signs with TransACT for datacentre

Makes $1.7 million agreement for the provision of datacentre services

Regional telecommunications company and iiNet subsidiary, TransACT, has made a $1.7 million agreement with Austrade for the provision of datacentre services.

The agreement was reached through the Australian Government’s Ready Now Panel for Datacentre Facilities, managed by the Department of Finance and Deregulation.

TransACT general manager of government, David Parkes, welcomed the five year deal to secure data services in Canberra, and said the new agreement follows two large deals with Crimtrac and the Department of Finance.

Parkes claimed that this brings the number of TransACT Australian government clients in the Canberra datacentre to 12, with further expansion well underway.

“The iiNet Group has committed to upgrading the size and capacity of our Canberra datacentre even further. We’re excited to provide a data solution for Austrade right here in Canberra,” he said.

Austrade ICT service delivery global manager, Nick Woodruff, said the agreement will support the company’s ongoing datacentre and infrastructure initiatives and lay the architectural foundations to consider Cloud as it matures.

“Co-locating our centres in Canberra secures our datacentre future for the medium term, and lets us take advantage of near proximity, fibre connected centres. This gives us architectural options that are not possible with our current model given our disaster recovery facility is in Sydney,” he said.

Woodruff added that the arrangement satisfies its need for possible future growth, with an expectation that the TransACT facilities will offer the reliability and cost-effectiveness it needs for its solutions.

“We’re very pleased to partner with TransACT and look forward to a mutually-beneficial relationship,” he said.
